Following the earlier integration of Badminton in
the 2013 edition of the Mediterranean Games scheduled to be held in Greece,
COMEBA started liaising with the Greek Organising Committee in order to
ensure the high standard and the smooth running of the Badminton
event.
However, during the meeting held on the 28th
January 2011, the Executive Committee of the Mediterranean Games has decided to
withdraw the 2013 edition from Greece.
There are now three alternative candidate
countries (cities) which are being considered: Spain (Tarragona), Turkey
(Mersin) and Libya (Tripoli).
The Executive Committee of the Mediterranean
Games will be meeting again in a few weeks' time in order to select the country
(city) that will host the 2013 edition and to determine the way forward for
this event.
COMEBA is monitoring the situation closely
and will be keeping its members informed of all future
developments.
John F. Attard
Secretary General
Confederation of Mediterranean
Badminton.
Welcome to Comeba
BADMINTON IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
GAMES.
During its latest
meeting held in Volos (Greece), the Executive Committee of the
Mediterranean Games has officially decided to accept COMEBA's proposal to
include Badminton as one of the several sports which form part of these
Games.
This is a great achievement for COMEBA which has been actively
working on this project for these last three years, in accordance with the
objective declared in its Statute.
As part of this project, COMEBA directors led by president Alberto
Miglietta held a meeting with the president of the Mediterranean Games
Executive Committee, Mr. Amar Addadi, in Algiers.
This was followed up by a separate meeting with the president
of the Greek Organising Committee for the forthcoming Mediterranean Games
2013, Mr. Erotocritos Neophytos; this was held in Pescara (Italy) while
the Mediterranean Games 2009 were in progress.
COMEBA would like to thank all those who have assisted and
supported its efforts in reaching this important milestone in its
history, particularly Mr. Torsten Berg and the Badminton World
Federation as well as Mr. Tom Bacher and the Badminton Europe
Confederation.
COMEBA will now be liaising closely with the Greek Organising
Committee in order to provide its support and cooperation for the
smooth organisation of the Badminton competition that will form
part of the next edition of the Mediterranean Games, which will be taking
place in 2013 in the Greek cities of Volos and Larisa.
